Cabinet Approves Agricultural Census

The Interim Minister for Primary Industries, Netani Sukanaivalu said while agriculture census data can be used in different ways, the primary objective of the exercise is to use the resultant census data for agricultural development planning and formulation of national agriculture policies.

"The use of up-to-date reliable data for meaningful agricultural development planning and for formulation of national agricultural policies has never been so profound, and this makes the conduct of the 2009 as absolutely essential," he said.

"This will provide data to be used as a bench mark to measure the actual structure of the agricultural sector and the frame to establish a statistically agricultural information system to follow the real permanent changes that are occurring in the agricultural sector."
